Obviously these will vary depending on how I feel,
but these are generally the ones.

1. Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen -it`s everything that makes a song good. It`s a poignant ballad, a fun song, with killer rock thrown in for the heck of it.

2. Stairway to Heaven - Zeppelin - seems impossible not to reach for the lighter, yet totally rocks out in the end, with a break, and then the all too classic "And she`s buying a stairway - to heaven."

3. Dream On - Aerosmith - is there another power ballad worth talking about? Awesome vocals too. Very touching.

4. Rock and Roll - Zeppelin - an actual non-ballad, ooooo. This IS what rock was meant to be. The insane drums, killer guitar riff.

5. Crystal Ball - Styx - there`s a lot of good songs sorta like this, but this is probably the best of them. Killer chorus.

6. Carry On, Wayward Son - Kansas - sweet... just.. great lyrics, great instrumentals, very meaningful piece of music.

7. Only rock and roll - `Stones - but I like it. Again, killer chorus, crazy yet valid verse lyrics. Incredibly well written.

8. either `Evil Walks` or `Spellbound`- AC/DC - very strong, face smashing rock, memorable chorus, and a certain something in the music.

9. Low Man`s Lyric - Metallica - this one, I mean, the guy`s playing a hurdy gurdy, and makes it awesome! The lyrics and even song tone are touching yet strong. It`s sweeeet.

10. Wild Horses - `Stones - Okay, this is probably one of their best. What more can I say?

Alt. 10. Fixxer - Metallica
Alt. 10. Fly Away From Here - Aerosmith

Notice: I didn`t put any of those generic songs, the power chord littered, plain lyric infested, boarders on Christian Rock songs that stink of stale drumming. You know who you are.

Right, I`m Scottish, NOT BRITISH, but Scottish. Scotland is a small country just north of England and we are famous for kilts, ginger hair, and Nessie, i.e. the Loch Ness Monster. I`m 15 and therefore don`t have the widest musical taste/knowledge, give me a break, eh? Anyhoo here`s my top umpteen songs- I`ve not decided how many are going in there yet - no particular order;

White Stripes - Jolene; I know it`s a Dolly Parton cover, but it`s totally immense, so there

Pixies - Nimrod`s Son, Gigantic, Bone Machine, Trompe Le Monde, U-Mass; Sorry about the lack of variation, although I have spotted a top ten compiled of 100% Nirvana. Probably the most influential band of all time, so they`re bound to have vast amounts of s**t-hot songs

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Otherside; By far the Chili`s greatest tune, Kiedis truly excels

The Strokes - Hard To Explain, Reptilia; Not much to say about these really, just tht I like them very much so

Nirvana - Lounge Act, Lithium; On Lounge Act, it may be simple and ever so slightly cheesey, but that doesn`t make it a bad song, and Lithium, well I believe the "I like it..." bitty is Cobain`s greatest ever piece of writing. My friends, typical teenage musical racists who listen to nothing but Oasis, said that they hated Nirvana and that this was an "outrageously shocking" song. Oh how their minds changed. It`s my favourite `bangin` tune`, as we say in Bonnie Scotland, well Dundee to be precise

Led Zeppelin - Rock & Roll; The intro is ace - the drums kicking into that riff - brilliant

AC/DC - It`s A Long Way To The Top (If You Wanna Rock & Roll), Whole Lotta Rosie; I love the tune during the chorus in It`s A Long Way... and Whole Lotta Rosie is, in my humble opinion, Angus` greatest riff

Stone Roses - What The World is Waiting For, I Wanna Be Adored; These songs are just the Roses at thier prime. Superb.

Before I leave, I would like you to take into account the fact that I have not put any Green Day, Guns `N` Roses etc. into my list, simply because I believe they are unbelivably bad, Guns `N` Roses, I must admit, I despise them, and Green Day are by far one of the worst bands to ever have such a huge amount of success. I have decided not to go to T In The Park (which is a Scottish music festival by the way) not only because the tickets cost £97, but also because the Foo Fighters (also poor) and Green Day are headlning the event, along with Travis who are one of the most boring bands in history. This may only be my opinion, and I`m sure an awful lot of Yanks may not agree with me, but hey, I am allowed my own opinion, aren`t I?

By the way, what`s all the bollocks about the list being not your favourite songs, but the greatest songs? If the list you submit is your favourite songs, surely they are in your opinion the greatest? I thought that was what this was all about, what were in YOUR opinion the greatest songs (ie your favourite?). Please correct me if I`m wrong.

hey it seems like the list above this has it about right
just one thing... wheres the AC/DC??
you cant deny how great a band they were. everyone`s list has to have at least one of their songs. back in black, highway to hell, you shook me all night long, thunderstruck, for those about to rock, dirty deeds, tnt, those are all definitive rock songs of any era. im not saying they are the best, but they should be on more lists.
