Puddle of Mudd is a grunge band or rather a manufactured 'nu-grunge' band in the same league as Nickelback, Creed, and Staind. The original incarnation of this band formed in the mid-1990s in Kansas City, Missouri. After this incarnation split up, a new version was formed in Los Angeles by vocalist Wes Scantlin.

Before the current band formed, Paul Phillips named this band Puddle Of Mudd.

The band is signed to Fred Durst's reocrd label, Flawless Records.
