There is a fingering for F# at
http://www.phys.unsw.edu.au/music/flute/virtual/main.html

That doesn`t mean that the average player can play that high.

Galway has recorded a good F at the end of one of his pieces.

Sorry about that, but actually the highest note is a 3rd octave C, so all of you who are saying that it is F, and E, you obviously haven`t been playing for a long time, `cause when you get into marching band, it goes way beond the little fingering chart in the back of your beginner book!!! So in your face to all of you who said that it`s F, E, and D!!!!!

You show your own ignorance, Amanda.
The F and F# that we are talking about are in the FOURTH octave. Any B or C above that is impossible, so the B and C that you are talking about are well below the F that is definitely possible - the one I refered to in the Galway recording.

The highest note on a flute is the high high F, which is possible to hit. I have hit it before, but i lost the fingerings. It is also possible to hit the high high G if you are ok to faint. But I in daily practices hit for fun the high E and it isn`t too hard. If you want to know what the fingerings are feel free to leave a reply on this website I`ll get back to yall later. If someone has fingering for the high G tell me please

If the following VERY comprehensive fingering website does not have a fingering for `G`, then there is unlikely to be one.

idiots. you can theoretically play as high as you want, but it`s limited because of the mouths of our shapes. haven`t you took physics, and learnt about all the hamronics of a closed ended instrument before?

Why on earth do you say it is a D when other writers here have produced heaps of evidence that it is significantly higher than a D? Look at the link to the comprehensive fingering chart, for a start.

Starlight wrote "..haven`t you took physics, and learnt about all the harmonics of a closed ended instrument before?"

There is a lot you don`t know! First, a flute behaves as a tube OPEN at BOTH ends. If one end was closed, then it would exhibit only odd harmonics, like a clarinet. It would overblow a 12th instead of an octave. Second, there are acoustic reasons why the harmonic spectrum cannot be produced ad infinitum, higher and higher. For a flute it is probably something to do with the diameter versus the length, and the closed section of tube to the left of the OPEN embouchure hole, and probably a whole heap of other factors. If you want to get a million times more educated on acoustics that your elementary physics, then read "Fundamental s of Musical Acoustics" by Arthur Benade. At least then you will, like me, have just a faint idea of just how much you DON`T know!

Alternatively, wander around some simpler information at:

http://www.leeds.ac.uk/music/studio/teaching/audio/Acoustic/acoustic.htm#sound_prop_closed

(BTW STarlight, is English your second or third language? ... just asking, seeing you seem to `know` so much, and this does not appear to be reflected in your manner of writing.)

In one of my flute books that I use for private lessons, it has the highest note, which is in fact a F. Although I have never tried to play it, it is still there. The fingering for high F is the second finger on the left hand, second finger on the right hand, and the D sharp trill key. I hope that helps!!
