Hohner makes harmonica ,accordion, recorder and guitar but does not make a flute.
The harmonica and accordion they make are the best in the world.

That is one of the junk flutes made today off of ebay. If you want one then I suppose you could always make it into a flute lamp or a wall hanging.

Probably fair comment.
However we have to be just a little careful. Probably during the next few years, a new brand will emerge that is very cheap, well made, plays well and eventually earns as much respect as Yamaha has since the days when it was once condemned as cheap Asian rubbish.
It actually would not need much input from a clued up mechanical engineer, a production engineer, a metallurgist, and a flute acoustician, to get a Chinese or Indian flute manufacturer to make a classy product that is still very low priced. The presence of flutes such as Sonare suggest that this will happen sooner rather than later.
Think of a Sonare flute as a pair of Nike shoes. Think of how cheap these items actually were to make, and how very good shoes are now available at a fraction of the Nike price. And imagine the price if we could buy the Nikes direct from wherever they are made. With the internet, that is sure to happen if it does not happen already. Competition will keep the price VERY reasonable for quality stuff.
I imagine the Sonare body probably costs a couple of hundred dollars to make. If China had a little help, I imagine they could make a professional quality, sterling silver head for no more than $100, which played as well as the best American and Japanese heads we have come to know. Hmm!
Exciting times ahead!

perhaps richard should do a little more research..hohner does make flutes (i own one myself) but i cant tell you if its expensive or not because it was a gift from my dad.. however, i can tell you its a beautiful flute, its probably worth the price

I very much doubt that it is the same factory that makes the top grade metal-reed instruments. Well known names are often stolen by unscrupulous marketers. There are flute factories in China and TAiwan whose flutes are probably are sold under dozens of different names. From may factories, I would only need to place an order of say $5000 or $10000, and they will put any name on it that I like, and this is what happens. The "Arak" or the "Boehm" or the "Galway" is born. LIkewise probably with Hohner.
