I have been trying to practice the flute throughout the day, but for some reason my fingers keep on slipping off of the keys. I haven't polished the keys at all either and tried wiping them down with a small amount of rubbing alcohol but they still keep doing it. I am playing on my backup flute which is s closed hole flute, so maybe I am just used to open holes? I didn't have this problem yesterday playing on it though. I get my Haynes Amadeus flute tomorrow and will be playing on that till I get my main flute back from the shop, so I will see if I have the problem with that one too. I went swimming today for about an hour, maybe it is something on my skin. At any rate, it is really starting to drive me nuts. Has anyone else had this problem and if so, what did you do?
Thanks!

Hi Kara,
Sorry to hear of your troubles, that's so frustrating! I've had something like that happen to me because of the weather. It was so hot and I was sweating so much my fingers were slipping and my lip plate kept sliding. If it was the weather, you'd put two and two together I'm sure. Any hair gel or something on your fingers?
That stinks, hope it goes away!
Good luck,
Ann

Hi Kara (really glad that you're back by the way),
maybe the chlorine in the pool has made your skin too dry, that might also affect how your fingers feel on the metal.

Hi and thanks!
I don't use any styling products, so we can rule that out. We did have to put algecide (sp?) in the pool, so maybe that could be it. Maybe by tomorrow it will go away.

Lol! I bet that would get me to practice more too!

I tried putting lotion and let it soak in, that seemed to do the trick. I would have thought that it would have made my hands more slippery, but it actually gave them more friction. Go figure...

Kara,

A few days ago, I was in trouble because of dry lips. This seems so silly, but it was just a matter of someone here telling me "drink more water..." and in two days I've got normal again. I'd just forgotten to do so.

So try to hydrate more, drinking more water, juice or whatever could help keeping humidity. Anyway it's better to drink small portions (say, half a glass) many times, instead of drinking a lot few times.

cheers,

Zevang

Great idea guys. Thanks!

Zevang, that is good thinking. I would wonder about that except that I practically live on (decaff) ice tea.

"this forum needs a sense of humor"
Patrick, I agree. Life is just too short too be too serious all the time. I enjoy your sense a humor a lot.

<Added>

Patrick, are you still in Tawain? I have never been out of the US, but would love to sometime. If you get a chance, I am sure we would all love to hear about it sometime.

I really see nothing wrong with having your fingers super glued to your keys. You can practice whenever you want, and will probably get to practice more since your flute would be permanantly stuck to your fingers. Plus, you'd probably get out of doing a lot of chores around the house. Just think, "Honey, you know I can't change the cat litter, I've got my powell stuck to my hands...." Sounds good to me....

Anyway, is it any better today?
