Hello everyone,
Once I save enough money I plan to upgrade my flute. I've been thinking miyazawa for the quality and price but I don't know too much about it or any brand for that matter. So I was wondering if you all would give your opoinions of the what you think is the best quality flute for the price. After having a job for quite a while and kissing up to my grandparents and parents I plan to have a price range of about $3,000----Hopefully I'll have that much money!(sorry car, you'll have to wait)
thanks <3

Hello,

Yes, Miyazawa is a good flute to buy. Also you might want to consider flutes such as Sonare, maybe a used Powell, Muramatsu, etc. You might want to look at www.fluteworld.com to see a variety of brands. Another suggestion would be to buy a good intermediate body such as Yamaha and buy a professional headjoint. Hope this helps!

The best flute i know is Aritist Flute which cost around $10K
haha that is too expensive and you may consider buying Pearl flute

Well, Lizhi, there are much more expensive flutes out there (I play one that is gold and cost a good bit more than that, and Pearl produces flutes that cost up to 55K), but that doesn't necessarily mean they're the best flutes. Some people will like them, but others simply won't be able to play them well. There really is no universal "best" flute, or else only one maker would exist today.

FLutist06 is correct. Flutes can cost several times more than ten thousand dollars. However you cannot assume that even the most expensive flute on earth is right for you.

Ever see Harry Potter? Well Like the weird wand shop guy says- "The wizard doesn't choose the wand, the wand chooses the wizard." The same is true with flutes exept replace wizard with musician and wand with flute.

For $3k you should be able to get a nice little setup. The best and timeless advice it to try every flute you possibly can, and see what YOU like best. You'll know it when you play it. If everybody liked the same flute, there would only be one brand.
Going used, you can often get a better quality flute for a great price because the original purchaser paid the markup! www.usedflutes.com and ebay can be good resources. But any potential purchase online should have the guarantee that you can return it if you don't like it, minus shipping. For new flutes, www.wwbw.com has a wonderful return policy. My teacher, when she was looking for a better flute years ago, went through about a dozen until she found the right one, which for her was a muramatsu. She said wwbw was very cooperative about the whole process.

wwbw is good about trials, but have to say I and some of my studenst have never gotten an instrument from them that didn't need adjustments as they do not set them up before shipment.

Yes, and they've made some interesting errors with smaller items that makes me favor Fluteworld. Fluteworld also has the larger selection (and is more willing to get something they don't have if you want it, at least in my experience).

Hmmm, that's good to know about fluteworld.com. I've actually never used them for anything! Maybe I'll give them a whirl this fall when school starts, thanks.

My favorite places to buy flutes and get them out on trial is JL Smith and Flute Center Of NY. They have the best customer service that I have encountered. As far as customer service goes for Flute World I have not always been to pleased. There really is only one person in flute sales there that has always given great service to me. They deal with high volume while the other places like Flute Center of NY is more of a Ma and Pops kida store.

if you are interested in buying a flute such as a miyazawa and also talk about flute world, theres a small shop near flute world (its about 20 miles away) in Clawson, MI. I know they do trials and such but im not sure how they go about it (since i live by both places). its called Flute Specialists. The best person to go through would be the owner, Robert Johnson. Flute Specialists typically have higher end flutes and a nice selection of used instruments as well. Their website is www.flutespecialists.com but they dont usually keep it updated since they moved. their prices list high but if you tell them that i sent you, you'll get a better deal. and they also dont sell them at the list price anyway. and they have some amazing repair too. so you can bet that their instruments will be adjusted correctly when you get it.

hope that helped a little.
