I am going to journey somewhat back to that "what's the highest note?" thread. It is not so much what the highest note is, but has anyone found a fingering that works for F4(or F7 in piano terms)? The one I have sounds like an F 1/2b. It's actually quite near the E, which I have found is pretty in tune. Also, what is the need for the Paganini Caprice #24 with Super Es all over the place. I found another transcrition that is quite feasible and very nice without all that trouble!

all of them actually. The only one that works was the one that I was describing. It is LH1, LH2 ring only, tril 2, RH3, C#+Eb

I've never had cause to play an F4 in a piece of music, but that fingering you mentioned is the one I use when I do decide to pop out the Fs. It plays very well in tune for me (Surprisingly, it's only about 5 cents off most of the time). And if I remember correctly, that particular caprice was originally intended for violin, so for them, it's not really a problem to play E4's (I'm assuming here, not being a string player). I suppose if none of the fingerings listed on that website work, you could always try to cobble together your own!

Chris,

It was originally written for violin, yes. I am just wondering why someone would transcribe it to include horrific notes like that? hmmm...my F4 is quite flat...pretty close to an E. Then again, maybe my entire 4th octave is really sharp. I think I was having difficulty even with the C4 being in tune. Maybe my e4 is just really sharp instead. I shll check them all with a tuner this evening.
