That's a nice looking lamp! I've always wondered this....When you turn a flute into a lamp, what do you do with the headjoint, just toss it?

Well the last one I just used it as something to practice my engraving on. I will think of something creative for this one.

Kate, you are just so crafty! It looks good.
I suppose if you wanted a taller lamp, you could leave the hj on and just pop the cork and crown out.
What about a bedside lamp out of a piccolo?
Sleep deprivation is hitting me, I better stop before I get too carried away...

A nice lamp like yours could be very inspiring so that your niece becames a flutist -if she is not one already...

She is a flutist. This is her first year. She never wants to put it down and drives her sisters nuts! lol! It is her first year and she is already into the second book while the band at school is only in the middle of the first. She calls me up and plays Christmas carols already. She is really good too! She lives out of state from me, so we have lessons over the phone and I have actually played duets with her that way. The girl can flutter tounge and double tounge already! I am so proud!!! Okay, sorry for going on, but I am such a proud Aunt that I deserve bragging rites.

Kara, what you tell is wonderful. It confirms my impression that music talent is related to families, I could not say whether genetically or through the inspiring environment and the example of the elders -or both. Having a willing and experienced teacher so at hand no doubt plays an important role.
Congrats for that!
Playing duets by telephone, wow, that must be difficult! Probably more demanding than playing with a recording (as I often do).
This reminds me of another family of musicians that I enjoy as cherished friends: the three brothers were first line or soloist winds (I talk in past tense as one died in an accident), both children of one of them, are also excellent soloists in European orchestras. And the third generation is already here, only it's too soon to know if they will follow the path.

Thanks, Kara.
Neato lamp!
My computer was broken (power surge fried the power supply) so I've been out of touch for a week or so.

Oh, okay. I have only done two of these so far, one for myself and one for my niece.
