I am just writing this message to introduce myself iam new two playing the flute about two weeks into it, finding it very hard. It wasn't a wise move to to learn a new instrument at 24. I am finding it fun tho.
well,
just keep practicing. it is hard i agree, but it gets easier as you go along. One thing i have to say is to never overblow. if you do the notes will come out way to airy or just flat out squeak. I still do that sometimes after 3 years of playing but just breathe gently into the flute.
I am in my forties and only just started learning properly a couple of years ago. I am making good progress through practising regularly - every day unless I'm ill. It's taken time to strengthen my facial muscles to form the embouchure and I find if i don't play for a few days I lose this a bit, but it does come back once I start again. I think the flute is a challenge because of the difficulty of controlling the airstream, but it's so worth it - what a wonderful sound when it's going well.
Here's some good news for karl_423 and Magic - 24 is not old, neither is someone in their forties
I started playing the flute about a year ago, and as much as I don't want to admit it, and I'm now just a couple weeks shy of the big six-o! I really enjoy playing, although it's coming along a bit slower than I thought it would. Sometimes I wonder if it's true what they say about how you can't teach an old dog new tricks!
I've been playing a little more than a week and it seems to get a little easier everyday. I am starting to get a pretty good tone as opposed to airy when I first started.
