I'm in desperate need of a nice audition piece for my up comming auditions.
can anyone suggest a piece that would help me get a place in the Australian youth orchestra?
Thanks

Is this for bassoon or flute (your name is bassonist, I do have reason to be confused.)? If it's for flute, I would recommend any of the pieces that were used by the Paris Conservatoire (sp?) for the annual competition. A bunch of them are compiled in a book entitled, "Fltue Music by French Composers" (edited by Louis Moyse). Otherwise, I would go with something slightly unconventional. If you go with something like a Mozart concerto, you'd have to really master it and nail it at the audition (I'm assuming that a lot of people are auditioning), because the judges have probably already heard them multiple times. Maybe go with the third movement from the Copland Duo? It doesn't help that I don't know your level of playing...
Good luck!

The Andante from the Molique Concerto is a good piece, too. It's very lovely, but it also shows off your technique.
