I actually realized I walk around with 50% my music and 50% famous flute players. I'm one of the few people in our band hwo do that and they get labeled "band nerds". I'm not into the whole labeling thing but I wonder sometimes if I am. I've been told to listen to others to improve but is that to musch?

I assume you're taking about what's on your Mp3 player? If so, you're not alone. The vast majority of my music is classical, including quite a few recordings of great flutists. There's nothing nerdy about it unless you let other people convince that it's nerdy. It's a great idea to listen to flutists, but to get the most out of your listening, branch out into listening to great trumpeters, vocalists, clarinetists, etc. Not only will it give you a wider breadth of musical ideas to draw on, but it will help keep your listening from getting monotonous.

I don't consider you at all nerdy - especially since when I have two different players playing Mozart flute concertos on my iTunes :D

It's okay! I actually like when I hear a classical piece and am learning how to play it...which has happened only once or twice.

my friend and band mate has an iPOD and just about every1 of the songs on it are by Richard Wagner, George Gershwin, George Bizet ect. and she's like the most popular kid in school and every1 loves her. so i don't nessessarily consider you being "nerdy" at all.

it's not nerdy...I don't have classical music on my IPod just because there's not enough space to put it with everything else I listen to.
