Somewhere, Pachelbel is cursing every one of us... Except those who appreciate his genious . Sorry, I must say that I have to object to some things. I give the man credit for putting the world of classical music out to a different kind of audience, though.
I feel the same way about Greensleeves. Every single Christmas - since I began playing the flute - whatever organization I'm playing in at the time has the "novel" idea to play a Greensleeves arrangement featuring flute.
When I've been asked to play my flute at Christmas church functions - guess what song they want to hear.
We just got our Christmas concert music - guess what song is there.
I also play "What Child is This" (Greensleeves)every Christmas season at church, however, in a darkened church, with a solo flute, it is so hauntingly beautiful. It brings many to tears (in a good way).
I know what Tim is talking about, I , too have played Greensleeves many times, and guess what, I don't get sick of it, it's like an old friend..also a fun tune to improvise on and transpose for the sake of developing tone
