I guess the first thing you have to consider is are you capable of teaching a beginner the correct techniques and fingerings, and how well would you work with younger kids. Teaching is very different from baby-sitting because it requires discipline and CONSTRUCTIVE criticizm.

Also take into account how long you`ve been playing. I`m into my eight year of flute, and I`m only just starting my flute-teaching (I`m volenteering as the teacher for the flute section of a beginning elementary school band). You really need to evaluate whether or not you`ll be able to give them what they deserve, and realize that if you screw up teaching them, they could hate music forever, of just have an insanely hard bad habit to break.

You also need to be aware of your time schedual. It`s not a half-an-hour-a-week thing, you need to be able to play and demonstrate things for your students.

I`ve gotta run (to band), but remember that flute will be with you forever, so you can teach whenever, but be aware of the responsibilities.

Happy fluting!

You could, but the last poster is right--your lack of experience teaching will hurt you. Not many people would choose a 16-year-old flute player over a college major in the flute or a professional flute player.

It`s probably a good idea to just get a regular job. Try snagajob.com or your local classified ads (try your really local papers, not big national ones).
