I started playing when I was nine years old. I did have a break for awhile when I moved and changed schools, but I was originally taught by nuns. It was very interesting.

I went to a private Catholic school where all nuns were teacher, but the band teacher was a man and not a munk or anything like that. lol! Nuns scare me!!! I started the flute when I was 10.

I was 41 when I started playing just under 12 months ago and I'm thoroughly enjoying myself

I started when it was my 9th birthday but starting earlier doesn't always make you any better.

I totally agree that starting earlier doesn't necessarily make you better!

I remember being so frustrated when I was just starting that I beat on my bed using my flute!!!(horrors)!!!

I don't think that would have happened if I had been a bit older and wiser!! But, Sister Mary Francis would have had a fit if she'd seen me!

Kipp, you beat your flute against your bed? You bad, bad girl!! Mabye I should have tried that with my flute so my parents would have gotten me a better one.

I started playing when I was 11... I played the clarinet first and hated it so I switched.

12, IIRC. I wanted to play flute and they forced me to pay Clarinet. That lasted about six months
