I have one that is in brand new set up playable condition that plays nicely that I would sell. It is just sitting in my closet. I like the flutes and I have wrote a review on them somewhere on this forum. I will have to find the link.
I think that Kara was trying to be kind.
I don't think that you'll find a lot of people who recommend those 1st Acts that aren't trying to sell you one. They cite durability problems, repair issues, tuning and such.

Of course if you don't really want to buy a flute, you could get a First act "Flute".
I have many private students, several have come to me with first act flutes, without exception, they all had to return them as they were all unplayable, if you are willing to spend whatever $$$ to have them set up (ask Kara) they may work...
If they are set up, they play quite nicely. I took probably two hours to set the last one up. I am not saying this because I want to make a sale either. I will be honest, I don't know what their longevity is, but I have my niece one last year to let the rest of my younger nieces play around with as they are always wanting play on her Yamaha. Apparently, they love to play around with this flute quite often too. When I went back there for a visit is was still holding up fine despite a few dents and scratches. I advertised the one that I have for a sale as being a good marching flute.
Re shimming the pads so that they seat properly. Taking out all factory oil and re oiling. Adjust the key height to proper height. Take out any lost key mission. Take out sliding or slop in the mechanism. Change out cork to felt. Add key silencers under the keys. Check cork in headjoint for a proper fit and line up. And so on, if I find any other problems to go along with it.

THey may be playable but the one that I saw had the hopes for the needle springs too large. I believe that the metal was too soft to hold the springs in place. I tried to fix one carefully but the others were falling apart as I worked.
I can type good, it is just that I speed type and like to multi task. My dyslexia likes to kick in too, so I am always switching letters around when I type. Grrr... My spelling stinks though and some very rude people like to criticize me for it.
I wasn't referring to you at all when I was talking about rude people. I know you were just joking around with me I just hate it when people go around correcting or pointing out other peoples grammar errors, like they are better than someone else because of it. There has only been a couple posters on this site to do that though, most everyone is excepting here.
Kara, that should read, "I can type WELL". Also please note the spelling of excepting- that should be 'accepting'.

I also think that it is rude to correct someone's grammar or spelling. However, I do think that it is acceptable to get clarification about something that is not understood about the post due to such an error.
I have a theory about a kind of musicality in people; it does not occur in all musically talented people, but just one group- more the nerdy types. We see grammar and musical structure as very similar, and when we here grammar being used incorrectly it stands out to us, much like a mistake with an accidental would. I have noticed that my friend and I (who are grammar/spelling nerds) already know when there is a mistake in a piece of written music, and what the 'correct' answer is in most pieces. I'm not saying that if someone has musical talent, they will automatically have a brain for grammar and spelling, too. I just find the grammar/musical phrase structure connection interesting.
