This may sound completely (or mostly) ridiculous however I was wondering if anyone's ever had some sort of flute-related nightmare whether it be about your flute or an upcoming performance, etc. I woke up yesterday morning (well, technically Sunday morning now) recalling a dream I had that the gold plating had worn off 75% of my flute and that severe pitting had been taking over (like stepping in a fire ant mound!). I'm fairly certain that this was due to the fact that I found a small scratch on my flute the night before and my conscience was pounding me to take better care of my things. No, I'm NOT making this up as I had called a few friends that same morning to tell them about the horrible (and somewhat pricey) dream I had. Just curious about whether or not anyone else has experienced such a thing. This is the first time that I recall this happening in the 12+ years I've possessed one of these metal sticks that we've all known to love and know as 'flutes'.

I had nightmare when I found a scratch on my new tenor. (I was kind of upset about getting it scratched up, after I discovered that scratch .)

well its not about the flute specifically , but one night after a grueling day of basics training during band camp this year i immediately fell asleep. whew...good thing right? no. it was awful because all i dreamt about the entire night was that i was marching in the basics block. and then i had to wake up and actually go do that all over again for a whole day. it was awful.

HAHAHAHAHA!
So that's what happens to people when they retire and have to much time on their hands.

I generally have some kind of nightmare or anxiety dream before something major, such as getting on stage to play one piece , then having the others play something else, sitting on my flute backstage..and many more...

I generally have anxiety about forgetting something. Not so much nightmares but when driving to a gig, I often look in my things to make sure that I have the music or even that I have my flute in the case.

Hahaha, thanks for the responses! On the 'damaged flute' topic, I recall letting a girl borrow my flute (my M2, mind you =) ) around 10th grade (2000-2001) and she came back with the headjoint SOMEHOW all bent up on the end of the tenon! I'm like "OMG what did you do?!". She's like *shrug* I don't know!". So THEN she proceeds to say "Wait-- I KNOW how to fix it!". I, at the time, had been taking my flute apart for about a year and waited to see her "fix" of the tenon. She proceeded to *ting-ting-ting* the headjoint on the tile floor of the bandroom to somehow (sort of makes sense lol) re-round out the tenon. *shakes head* We ended up having to take it to the repair shop *joy* and never let her play one of my instruments again. She's the same chick who ruined her own Gemeinhardt flute shortly after (I guess she gained the experience of how to break things by using my flute!) and the trill keys needed to be screwed back on. I was about to fix it for her (well, reassemble, I should say) when she went ballistic and started screaming "GIVE ME BACK MY FLUTE!". Although someone SAW her throw her OWN flute around, she swore up and down that someone broke into her band locker and purposely destroyed her flute. Shoot-- at THAT time, the lead flute + piccolo player would leave her 1011 DiMedici and handmade $3k (at the time) Hammig wave-lip piccolo laying around the bandroom in their cases. I'm not sure which of these 2 girls were more irresponsible: the chick that broke her own flute and had her locker fingerprinted to see who did it (which came back to HER!) or chick #2 with around $4-5k (at the time) of flute-related belongings strewn around the band room. tsk-tsk!

I've had dreams of my flute being stolen and of giving bad performances, always loosing my place in a duet. But I've had dreams of giving really awesome performances too.
If my house was on fire, I'd make sure my kids and hubby were out safely, then my flute would be next. No joke.

i had a dream once in high school that my house caught on fire. my parents told me to leave my flute because it was insured and i could get a new one for free, but grab the piccolo because it wasnt insured.
so by the time the house was under control, i went back inside and found that everything in the house had been destroyed, except my flute.
then i woke up crying because i wanted a new flute.

i once had a nightmare that the keys of my flute fell off during a performance at music camp...OH WAIT! that actually happened! and as the director carried the flute across the stage you could hear other little pieces of it falling to the ground. thats when i told my parents i wouldnt wait any longer for a new flute...haha
oddly, i dont remember having any dreams about performing. but maybe i just dont remember them...
