Brio! website was released today its a nice website. And Greg Patillo, who is a professional flutist, who has his bachelors and master in music, play on them, thats good. And my local music store is a dealer of them, so I can not wait to try one.

I would be suprise and doubt if Greg plays on a Brio as his main flute.
<Added>
I will be at a flute fair on Friday to check some out. I will let you know what I think of them. I have heard mixed reviews on them. I am at the point now that I personally will not buy anything not being made in Japan or the US until they can make improvements.

I wonder why then if it is Gregs main flute why he doesn't use one in his videos? Unless, he got one to tarnish REALLY fast! Of course, he is going to say he uses one as his main flute. He is hired to say that. lol!!

Hi, I just wanted to drop you a message as I've seen your YouTube videos before and loved them (like most others) as well. I have a few flute questions for you though and hopefully you can take a minute out of your busy day and answer them for me.
What is the make and model of the flute you play on your YouTube videos? It looks sterling to me (evident by the coloring of the tarnishing) but also looks like what I'm guessing to be either a Gemeinhardt or Armstrong closed hole model, not sure.
A fellow flute friend was telling me today that you're endorsing the Brio! Gemeinhardt flute line and I was curious about that as I had a friend try one of those flutes on trial and needless to say she was quite unimpressed. Just wondering...
Have you tried the Orpheo flutes? I'm awaiting my demo flute from Orpheo now and can't find any reviews on them (I'm going to be selling them soon).
Hopefully this message isn't a burden and you can answer my questions. Keep playing!
Thanks! -Suzie http://foreverwoodwinds.com

Hello! thanks for getting in contact with me. I am playing a brio! these days its true. It is an open holed, solid silver, b foot, sautered tone hole with a custom designed head joint. I previously played a brannen. I actually really like the brio I have (obviously gemeinhardt has had a bad name in the industry over the past decade or 2) it has an incrdebly even scale and really helps me stay in tune when plowing all that air through the darn thing. I wonder why you say "needles to say she was quite un-impressed"? Have you played one? The head joint I am playing on was cut by a guy in the factory, and it is the best head joint I have ever played no doubt, but they will not be on the market for a while yet. This is a subsidiary of gemeinhardt, and parts of the flute are actually made in china, and in elkhart indiana, that is why it is actually affordable. anyhow, thanks for listening!

But-- I also agree with Kate and contemplated the tarnish factor in Mr. P's videos. Brio! was introduced a few years ago and there's NO WAY in H*LL that a new Gemeinhardt Brio! flute with that sort of plating (50s Series Gemeinhardt style of plating) would tarnish so quickly. Anyone?

yea i guess your right, his flute does look tarnished, but i aso dont see him as the person who is obsessive about it lol but the head joint, well the cap, idk what its called, is the dana sheridans, but who knows lol, you'll never know until you try the flute.

In order to give the Brio! that wonderful tarnished look, I wonder if he's used charcoal to retain the lovely black lustre. Hmmm maybe I should try that. It should give it a wonderful appearance to the finish of the flute-- OR add extra weight to the tubing to enhance the tonal properties? Lol just kidding!

I think the Brio! is his new flute as he said in his email, he used to use a Brannen, which mean he obviously has a new flute...the brio im guessing, I am going to ask him

First off, what are "sautered" tone holes? Is he meaning soldered? If so, I was told that all the tone holes are rolled, not soldered. If he is going to represent the Brio line, I hope you knows this now.
<Added>
Of course Greg is going to tell you that he plays the Brio as his main flute now. Again, he is paid to say that. Lets see... Brannen or Brio? Brannen or Brio? Hmmm....

"I hope you knows this now."
hahahaha!!!! See... I can't talk to Suzie on the phone and type!!! It is all your fault Suzie!!! Okay, really I just can't type. (Grins)

ALSO-- I'm not sure WHY they did this but the video on the Brio 'factory tour' link is of the Gemeinhardt factory in Elkhart, Indiana, and the flute showed that they make there when Greg pointed out after the manufacturing of the upper bridge (small key) was a Gemeinhardt 2SP and NOT in ANY WAY a Brio!. The entire factory tour being of the Brio! manufacturing was COMPLETE crap as NONE of the things showed the Brio! model. Having received a tour of the Gemeinhardt factory a few years back, I recall seeing a few things however NONE of the flutes in the video were of Gemeinhardt's Brio! line. Can anyone say 100% misleading video being publicized and trying to get everyone to think that those flutes are being made in the same general area as the Gemeinhardt 2SP/3SB, etc. models?! I'm giving them a call tomorrow to complain for misleading the public. I HATE when people do that crap and people don't know any better and believe it! GRR!

Kate, Baby-- why you gotta be like that?! =)

WOW!!! I really hope he gets paid a lot for saying that because; HOW ON EARTH DO YOU GO FROM A BRANNEN TO A BRIO!!!! thats like having a lambougini*, selling it, and getting a bug. Although both great cars. You should already know the better one. LOL!
