My parents took me flute shopping with realism that they wouldn't buy me a flute out right and would have to rent. We went to the only place in town that rents to own and the best flute they had was a Yamaha Xt. I saw these at the TMEA convention and really liked them.
Does any body know what the specs are on them because the yamaha site doesn't say anything about them.
Also, the flute's lip was gold all over and on the inside of the headjoint. Is it gold plate or solid gold?

I ended up getting it. I tried it against an azumi, pearl 795, and amadeus and this just made me go crazy. I am so happy with it. I also got a armstrong 204 piccolo thrown in for a cheap price.

So is it the lip-plate solid yellow gold or not. I was told it was only plated but i don't think the people knew what they were talking about. Plus the inside was gold too. I was gonna do a streak test but I chickened out because I didn't want to scracth it.

Of course it is plated! Do you really think that you would get solid gold on a Yamaha flute for that price? lololol!!! Of course you could flash it at people and just tell them it is gold. Most non flutists wouldn't know the difference anyway.
Hey, is that PeterK back with us?

That statement worries me that some flutes should not be placed in the hands of a minor! EEEKKKKK!

Let's just put it this way-- MANY (if not MOST) companies, when goldplating the lip plate of a flute, will plate the inside of the tubing as well. Does Yamaha EVEN make a flute model with solid gold lip plate? If so, I'm sure it'd end up costing more than $1k which I'm willing to wager that your flute did not. I'm unsure as to whether or not you were asking if your lip plate, the riser, or the entire headjoint was somehow gold. Is your headjoint even sterling silver? If the inside of the headjoint is gold colored and the exterior is not, that would be obvious to almost everyone that the headjoint is clearly not solid gold (unless it is aurumite - http://www.powellflutes.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=9&idproduct=83 ). Why would a music company lie to you about your lip plate is solid gold or not? Most music stores take a huge amount of profit, at your expensive mind you, when they sell instruments, nevermind them trying to try and mislead you into thinking your flute has plated gold vs solid. Usually if a lip plate is solid gold it will be marked 10kt, 14kt, etc.-- at least that's how Pearl (last I knew) did it.
AAAAAAAALSO, why would you want to scratch ANYWHERE on the lip plate? That's a very easy way to mess up your blow hole forever. Whomever suggested that you do that should quit while they're [not] ahead.

JUST for a headjoint with a 14K lip and riser will cost you around $2,300.00. Now I know that your entire flute couldn't have cost that much, but please correct me if I am wrong. I have never seen a Yamaha headjoint with a solid gold lip or riser. Now they do make them in all gold though. Next time just used a sander on your headjoint to find out if it is gold. It is much faster. lol!!!
