Hello!
I need to buy Mozart Concerto in G and J.S. Bach's Sonata in C from fluteworld; my edition of the Mozart quite frankly, is awful. There are several notational errors and actual wrong notes in the edition, which I cannot tolerate. Not to mention funky articulation. But I was wondering who you think the best publisher is for these two pieces, because I know that the ranking of publishers is widely disputed.
Does anyone know what publisher is preferred by high institutions such as Julliard and MSM professors?? Or is there simply an edition that most well-known/accomplished flutists use?
Thank you so much in advance!!! I just don't want to pay all that money again for a piece and have to buy another one simply because the publisher wasn't good. I appreciate all advice.
As far as Mozart, the Schirmer edition is what's used in any type of auditon here in PA, such as Districts, Regional tryouts, etc. It seems to have a few inconsistencies here and there, to which I pencil in my revisions :-)
For Bach, I don't know what's preferred but my own opinion is that the least editing, the better. So I like urtext editions, and the Wummer and Rampal editions work for me. I can't stand certain movements of the L. Moyse edition of the sonatas; I think someone was geting paid by the stroke!
If you are auditioning for a school, you can contact someone in the music department and find out what edition they prefer, or sometimes it's right on their web page.
I have the Carl Fischer edition.
:P It works for regional/state auditions, but I'm auditioning for MSM and Jyard precollege, so it definitely won't be acceptable.
it really depends if you want an overedited edition, the international edition ed. by Rampal (with his cadenzas) is good, otherwise you can find Peters or other urtext editions which are light on the articulations and dynamics...
i agree with patrick. rampal editions are usually good. i personally have the urtext version (barenreiter to be exact but there are other ones out there).
