Hey I'm new here! My name is Taylor. I have been playing the flute for 3 years and I just recently picked up the piccolo. I can't wait to get to know you all and it will be nice to know I have people I can come to with questions, because I will have pleanty of them!

ok thanks...hahaha here's question one. When I play high notes on the piccolo, its really loud. I now that you can't avoid some loudness, but is there anyway to make a little softer, without ruining my tone?

you need to approach those notes, that is difficult for anyone to do. Also, take a passage and play it louder, say MF, and gradually repeat the passage softer and softer until you feel the right embouchure for such soft playing...

You will need to blow less quantity of air, but blow it just as fast. That means you will need to blow through a very accurate but smaller slit between your lips, but actually blow with more breath pressure. That takes a lot of practice.
In the mean time, be sure to wear ear plugs!
