ok Im getting ready to learn the flute. I already know how to play the clarinet so I know the notes. I'm borrowing my frinds flute. do any of you have any tips for me

most of us will tell you this, get a decent flute and a comptetent teacher and a good method book series..
and one more thing...practice

most of the flutes in my band have armstrongs, i think they're pretty good. i have an artley tho... umm make sure u get ur embochure right from the beginning or u'll get used to the wrong way. that happened with me. it sux.

I would find a teacher to teach you the correct embouchure before you teach yourself something and it starts to become a bad habit. I would suggest getting Taffanel and Gabuerts 17 BIG DAILY FINGER EXERCISES FOR FLUTE. and/or. The complete daily exercises for the flute by trevor wye. Yes, i know that some flutist don't like to start their young ones with this, but i started with them both when i started at an early age and it has been very beneficial to me.
