I went to warm up today and all the notes except E and D didn't work. They just sounded like air passing through a tube, not notes. All on the same pitch. My flute doesn't look messed up... I can't fix it myself and I don't know what to do. Does anyone know how to fix it or have any suggestions?

Have you considered taking it in for repair?

Easy, take to a repair tech like Bilbo suggested. That was a hard one..

If you havent taken it in yet, take a look at the springs on the lower stack. If you can see one off it is a simple fix with a eyeglass screw driver. You can also check for a leak by removing the headstock and fingering all of the notes closed gently and then looking down the flute. From there if these ideas dont work take it in!!

I think you meant to say headjoint?

You really won't be able to see any leaks that way.

Are you sure no notes above E work? What about G# & above in the bottom octave & also in 2nd octave?

My guess is that your split G key has become mis-adjusted - when you press the 'G' key the lower key probably doesn't close completely until you play E.

Thanks everyone. I found two loose springs and fixed them. It works now!
