I have never played a Tervor James flute. I don't think they are popular in the United States.

Good luck

As far as I know Trevor James makes Taiwanese flutes. It's probably best to stay away from them.

Yamahas are always good. Uhm Kara or Suzie know a lot of brands.

i know over her in the uk trevor james are a popular brand of student flutes (there 10x models) but my friend has one and the screw in the thumb key keeps coming out so i don't have very good opinion of them- mind the tone is quite good have a look on flute world and try some out then get the one you like the best.

You can't go wrong with a Pearl. My students seem to gravitate towards the Quantz 665s. Flute World is a good place to buy one.

Gemiendhardts are really good I play one at school. As far as I know, they're one of the most popular and some of the best made flutes available in the U.S.

Artleys are also ok but they're not as well made. They also have a tendency to get air leaks a lot.

Emersons are also good from what I've heard but I haven't played on one before so I can't tell you much about them.

Prettybird, how many brands of flutes have you tried? Gemeinhardt is not considered a great flute by too many people that have vast knowledge of flute brands.

Unfortunately, you will get a lot of students recommending the brand that they play on with little knowledge of what is out there. That being said a lot of it should be taken with a grain of salt.

The Pearl is a good choice. It's best, IMO, to start off with a good maker's student model(ie - they make mostly pro level ones but also a student model).

Then you can later upgrade the head joint and get very close to the pro one's sound.

I really like Jupiter flutes, but thats just me. Have you looked on fluteworld.com? All the brands of flutes are good brands. How much money are you willing to spend? That could affect the flute you get.
