Is it necessary to have a finger saddle on a flute while we are playing ?

I do experience sore wrist when I'm holding my flute for too long, do I need a plastic finger saddle to correct my posture or something like that?
Or do I stick to playing like that and I will get use to it?

One said : The hand must bend backward at the base of the index finger just to support the flute. With the finger saddle, the tension caused by such an awkward position is alleviated, reducing the risk of carpal tunnel and other musculoskeletal disorders. I highly recommend it. It's adhesive free and being made of plastic can't harm your flute. It just snaps on and off.

I want to hear your suggestions, please help me.
I'd appreciate much here

How many of us have played for decades without one? I know I have, and never even considered using one. But I don't experience pain when I play (even for hours at a time).

Do you have a teacher who oversees you? Maybe your hand position needs correction and the pain will go away. Or maybe your own hand/finger conformation (something you were born with and can't change)is the reason for the pain? The best way to know would be to consult a professional who can evaluate you in person to understand whether an awkward hand position or something else is causing the pain.

Carpal tunnel syndrome can hit anyone, anywhere at any moment. Take care and get medical advise. If detected, any accessory you may try could be useful. In the worst case surgery could be indicated and it should not interfere with your playing after a while.

How long does it take for your wrist to hurt? I have found that practicing for hours on end is exhausting and unproductive. Instead, practicing 1 hour at a time several times a day is much more enjoyable, much more productive, and quite painless.

If something hurts, stop whatever you were doing and find a way to make it stop hurting in the future. A finger saddle might help you, and it might not. Don't just ignore it. Carpal tunnel scares the bajeesus out of me, and it can really put the brakes on your fluting.
