Hey guys~ I got a question about the headjoints.
Well currently I got a Altus Model 907. However i have got the chance to change to a new headjoint. Since my cork on my altus headjoint got wrong plus i wanted to change my headjoint... anyways.
And i came across Burkart headjoints.
I am considering with the Burkart BH13 (9k Gold on Silver) and the Burkart BH9 (998 Silver).
Which one is much better for a Japanese flute body and produces a dark tone sound?.
I am not really sure about headjoints and i would like some comments on it.
I have a Sankyo body. And I upgraded to a 10 K Burkart headjoint and it was a perfect match for me. But you do need to try which one works best for you.
I don't have enough experience to offer a suggestion, but I was on a different forum and a poster said he went to Nagahara( who many think is at the top of the list)to upgrade his headjoint. He told them what cut he wanted and they brought out 7 supposedly matched headjoints for him to try. He said 6 of them did nothing for him above what he already had, but one of them was great and he bought it.
It seems trying is important if you really want to get the best upgrade for yourself.
What is the difference in diameter between the Williams HJ and your Altus body? If it is not much, any competent flute tech (preferably the person you bought the HJ from) can "burnish" the HJ to fit your body.
In my case, the 14K Williams HJ was .012" and my thinwall Haynes at the time was .014", so Carolyn Nussbaum fitted it for me.
If the difference is too large, then the HJ can be fitted with a "sleeve".
As a temporary measure, plumber's tape works well and does not damage the HJ.
