I have an old Armstrong Heritage alto flute (inline) that I bought used in the early 1980s. There is no serial number on it that I can find. The head is stamped "SILVER HEAD" near the crown. Does anyone know the probable specs of this flute? Thanks.

Hi - Armstrong's alto flutes in the Heritage line were/are numbered asmodel 703, but typically have a plated head joint. It's quite possible someone decided to upgrade to sterling for the iimprovement in tone... lucky you Have you looked for the serial number on the body? Try looking around the left hand keys. I have seen older models with the serial number tucked in there.

I have a vintage 1977 sterling Armstrong 80B that I bought new as a 10th grader and still play. With care and maintenance, Armstrong's seem to last forever.

I hope this helps. My other suggestion is to contact Armstrong in Elkhart,IN. They have helped me with a few mystery instruments.

Thanks - I'll look a little closer at it for a serial number, but I thought I'd pretty much covered every square millimeter and found nothing.

It does have a very nice tone, though I've got to get someone to unstick part of the mechanism.

I had the alto flute worked on, and they found a serial number which was kind of hidden - H1670. Haven't really been able to find out anything about this series.
