I`m 12 and I play a clarinet (Bb) student one.
I want to get a new one, but does anyone know what the best brand is? If you have any suggestions please feel free to contact me on my email:

I`ve heard the Le Blanc is a good brand; I`m not sure though.
Thanks

Does it really matter that much between the plastic clarinet and a professional clarinet, how much does it change???!

A lot! You can try it out yourself. It`s a totally different sound. Plastic clarinets kind of miss a quality in the tone. You can`t get it as soft as professional (tree) clarinets.

If you are going for a pro model, get a Buffet R13. They come in pure grenadilla wood or you can get them in "Greenline", which is a composite material of 95% wood fibers and 5% resonite. It is presed under great pressure in order to make the body impervious to cracking or breaking. It`s a little cheaper but you do not get the tone quality of a wooden R13. I would suggest the Buffet wooden R13.

I would say Buffet, Tosca.
I had it for only two weeks but i can already see that it is much better than my previous one which was RC.
The sound is absolutely beautiful that you cannot just describe with words.
Even though it is a little bit expensive, if you are going to play clarinet as a career, i suggest it is good idea to choose the best one at the first time.

Is this a good student clarinet?
Why or why not? In layman terms please. It would be for a child. I don`t need any pretentious answers or insults. I see a lot of those on this site. I am just looking for some advise from someone with some knowledge and experience.
Thanks!

Well I thought I was getting a great deal when I bought my clarinet online for about $120 but this discussion has made me realize what quality that I AM missing. Although I don`t regret my purchase; it allowed my to stop renting one that I was only using occasionally. The brand, "Simba", insn`t even mentioned here which isn`t a surprise because of the price...I knew it would`nt be the best brand, but it allowed me to start playing again (about 12 years ago with a rental). I`m considering getting some lessons to help me acheive a higher level than where I left off in high school. Anyway, I have noticed difficulty with certain notes & with the upper notes despite my continued practice, it is not as smooth & pretty as the wooden ones that I rented from the music stores. Oh well! I still enjoy the pleasure of being able to create music!!

PS: funny comment about band nerds earlier!!! LOL :P
