Let`s see, I used to play in an odd jazz ensemble with piano (me), violin, alto saxophone, horn (French horn, that is), baritone saxophone, and bass clarinet. The bass clarinet filled in for string bass. It seems to me neither low instrument masked the other. I don`t know; I give up.

Bari sax is louder, by far. We, however, have 3 baris, and only 1 bass clarinet. I just joined the low woodwinds from saxophone, and I am now on contrabass clarinet (in BBb).

My band has 2 bass clarinets and a bari. sax, and the baritone sax is definately more louder then the bass clarinet. I don`t know if the bari. sax is just naturally louder, or mabey it has something to do with the players?

It`s naturally louder. Personally, I think it has to do with the conical bore. It`s really easy to play loudly on a bari, where on the bass clarinet, it feels like it`s tougher to play louder.

I`m my schools only bass clarinet playe and we have 2 bari`s in 7+8th grade. Well I would say bari is louder but then again today in practice I was playing way louder than bari maybe she wasnt feeling like playing too loud today.

The barri sax is louder than the bass clarinet.

In my band, we have one barri sax and one bass clarinet.
The bass clarinet is me, the barri sax is one of my close guy-friends.

:D
