Today was contest day for my band. While we were traveling to the contest site, I couldn't help but think that my band was going to get a 3 or a GOOD... When we arrived, we were told to go to the warm-up room and tune and stuff. Of course in the warm-up room, while tuning all 79 of us individually, the director had to tell people to be quiet. It was like MHS "Demonic" Band had returned. However, when we got on stage it was like a miracle. Everyone was serious and ready to play their butts off, and WE DID! Our first tune, the march "Rough-Riders", was the best its ever been! Our next song, "The Light Eternal", was a real breakthrough for us. The judges seemed to love it, and so did our director. I thought he would shed a tear. Our last song, "Simple Gifts", started out excellent! However when we got the the 3rd movement, the horns didn't come in right with the clarinets. At the beginning of the last movement a 3rd clarinet came in 2 measures early! She wasn't watching at all. It didn't affect our score though. In the sightreading room, after we got off stage, we blew the easy little sightreading out of the water! I've babbled on enough. OVERALL my band received a superior rating and we're going to get our plaque and hang it with all of our earlier plaques, awards, and trophies. I can now say that we are the MHS "Symphonic" Band!

Congrats! How awsome!
There isn't a better feeling than playing your heart out in band and playing your pieces really well.
Seventy-nine people? My band has only twenty-seven people. We're a pretty small band, but I suppose we're pretty good for such a small band.
