My first clarinet was a vito, a hand me down from my aunt. I have to say, it was half decent. I didn't have any problems with it, it was durable, and pretty responsive. In fact, more responsive in the 3rd register than my inter. Selmer was. Vito is made by LeBlanc, one of the bigger names in clarinet.
What's most important though, is how it works for you. Every player is different and has different styles and playing preferences. Keep that in mind.
Also, if you like the action of the instrument, but there's still something not quite right, definately consider a new mouthpiece. Most clarinets come with mouthpieces that are ok, but can sometimes be a hinderence to good playin. If you are serious about playing and plan to stick with it, you should be able to get a good mouthpiece for about $100, a worthwile investment if you are already buying a clarinet.
Hope this helps.

unfortunately, if you intend on playing for a long time, then i suggest you get a better horn, nothing against Vito, but the word Vito implies poopy horns
