Hi... I'm trying to help my son(11) choose a new ligature for his Buffet R13. We don't have any local music shops so I'll be buying online. I'd rather the single screw type and noticed BG produce a range that offers different things such as easy staccato etc.. Easy staccato(if there is such a thing) and a warn tone is the target.. but do the variations really make much difference. Does anyone have any tips or things I should look out for..
Many thanks

the Vandoren Optimum is a good choice becuase of its versatility, and also look at the Brancher Leggerio. It also has a very warm tone and it easy to play on

I use an Optimum on a RC Prestige and I think they generally work well with Buffetts and any sort of Vandoren mouthpieces. They're pretty expensive though and the Rovner's are also very good (similar to the BG).

Try a Rovner Dark. They sound rich and full. I don't have one and have never tried one, but man do they sound good!!

I use a Rovner on an R13(Lyre) Mouthpiece, on my Opus II. I've used that sort of ligature since seventh grade, and it's very good. There is a point when you just keep spending money, and they don't get radically better from one version to the other.

First, how does your 11 year old son have a buffet R-13?

Hi.. Many thanks for all you responses. We ended up getting the Rovner MK3 Dark as per suggested and changing the standard Buffet R13 mouthpiece to the Vandoren M30. What a difference. My son finds it much easier to play and the tone is excellent. Just in time for his grade 5 in three weeks time.. Although aware that a difference could be obtained I am trully amazed in the clarity in both the lower and higher registers. Many thanks for all your suggestions
