Okay so we all know what the steriotype of clariet players are. If you don't here's a common joke.

Q-How many clar. players does it take to change a lightbulb?
A-One but he/she will go through a whole box looking for the perfect one.

*hint* We're known as the perfectionists, the ones who want things to be right, and the ones who are stubborn [this is the major cause of clarinet drama ]. So what I want to know is if that's true for you.

I thought that joke was to point out that we go through a whole box of reeds to find the one that suits us the best

AGH! Clarinet drama! In marching band there are only two guys and ten girls (well, the two of us play bass clarinet but we're always with the sopranos) and the drama can be nightmare-ish. We are all very stuborn and drive eachother crazy. The funny thing is most of us are really close outside of band. And then in concert band I play Bb soprano and I'm the only guy in that band who plays clarinet. Ugh, they drive me up the wall! The tears, the sreaming, the squealing, the who's-going-to-play-first argument they have everyday. But then of course there are perks to being the only guy; they all dote over me.
Oh yeah, I told that joke to them once, the one about the reeds. And none of them got it...

i can never get that joke.

Yeah, the clar. section in my orchestra is something i'm really proud of. Perfectionist? I doubt that...but we do strive for the best. ^^ But its my section that holds the humble, willing-to-learn-more, willing-to-share players. And we don't mind letting other section members to try our clarinets out, unlike the flute and the oboe section, whom are really, reeeaaallly reluctant when it comes to sharing their instruments. =.='

That's totally true about the guy thing. hm....that's a good topic to talk about actually. We have about 30 clarinets in total and there are only four guys (but only two are actually normal). So it's like i'm sitting next to one of the guys because we're in chair order and then like the whole section plus the flutes because there arn't any guy flutes. U must feel special.

I guess it's not the same for every clar. player. Wow, in my band, the flutes and oboes are the ones who shoove their instruments into other people's hands. lol.

sry, i meant to say...

"So it's like i'm sitting next to one of the guys because we're in chair order and then like the whole section plus the flutes (because there arn't any guy flutes)are flirting with him. U must feel special. "

I'm the only guy clarinet at my school, and a lot of the band knows me because of it. Lol at our school its more of a i'll let you play mine if you let me play yours type of thing.

the flute n oboe players in my orchestra are terrified that we damage their delicate instruments -_-'. It's more of a "I'll lend u mine even though you don't lend me yours" basis. haha.

yeah...I'm a perfectionist...but in general at my school, all the clarinets are slackers. in band, someone makes a mistake and then we all crack up. Not so good in concert band when we're in the front...

Our clarinet sectin leader never lets us screw off. She is like a major perfectionist and she is always real serious. But the times when she's not at band its like a circus in the clarinet section(so much fun)lol.

That's like us! She's always saying things like "stop being so childish...you're letting the band down...when's the last time you played that thing?" But we don't care, and we have an awesome conductor who doesn't mind too much (unless its at something serious, then he glares at us). Luckily Veronica (the mean snobby girl) often thinks she's too good for the band and doesn't turn up...hehehe
