That pretty much sums up exactly what our section leader does.

In my band, it's such the opposite. The flutes are the extreme perfectionists and the trumpets have the arguments about playing first. We get laughs out of this. Although we all want to sit first chair, we're usually willing to switch to 3rd part if it balances out the sound. We have a huge section, mostly sophomores and seniors, but since there are split campuses, we have 5 bands. This makes for almost no drama. We're more of a behind-the-scenes section, but you're right, when we make a mistake no one really cares that much.

hmm...clarinets as the perfectionists? i think in my band...it could be true. but...my clarinets are very much the...well, lets just say we're the monkey house of the band. strangely enough though, with the exception of a about two or three freshmen, our section is the best when it comes to getting along with each other. there is no drama within our section. however, i know there is a ton of drama in the flutes, though i love most of them in wind ensemble,...they're probably the most competitive section that my best friend wishes she played clarinet instead because we just have so much fun together. i think the only actual perfectionists in my section are...the top 2, only sitting there because we don't feel the need to argue) and the 1st chair in symphonic band. the rest of us are shown to be lax, but also very stubborn when push comes to shove..., probably because of the lack of enthusiasm of our section leader...the clarinets in my school are actually rather...inappropriate. we only have *counts* 3 guy clarinet players in our band now and the one NORMAL one is section leader, one is very upbeat and very odd but always with the clarinets, and the other is always with the flutes...i actually really like my section this year and i'm glad its my senior year and that i like MOST of the clarinets...its a good finish for me :] .

I have to say that, in our wind ensemble at school, there are just two of us on Bb clarinets and about a million flutes. And it is the flutes who are the perfectionists, if we make a mistake in rehearsal which we always do, we crack up laughing and thats it for the rest of the rehearsal, the flutes take it so seriously and frown upon us lol.

clarinet drama... and that, my friends, is why i was vehemently correct people who say i play clarinet, not bass clarinet. and boy do i love my marching band mellophones. absolutely no drama there, except maybe an argument over who gets the last red slurpie and who has to take the coke one.
(i marched clarinet freshman year, so i'm not just stereotyping. its true.)

I totally agree. I was the section leader for 4 years and my section lovingly called me the Dictator. It's a title I took with pride. Just think of honor bands. Every single one I've been to is the same. The trumpets and the percussion are always screwing up and getting the director frustrated, while the clarinets hardly ever need attention.

I think it's fairly common knowledge that we're all brilliant, amazing, attractive, clever, friendly, fun, and talented.

Right?

when clarinet players mess up at my school they always get mad at me. Only me because im the only guy clarinet player then the others will say things like clarinet is meant for girls and not for guys and stuff like that gets real annoying.
