Hello,

I play Bb Clarinet and I have just started playing in another band. I have a question - you know sometimes notes "die" (mostly in Jazz songs) when there is the note and a squggly line going down? How exactly do you do that on the clarinet?

Thanks!

whenever i find the falling glissando, i hold the main note then very quickly fit in as desending notes in the final semiquaver or so. this is because i cant do gliss.s all that well, but works fine all the same.

to do the gliss properly, ive been told to relax the embochure (so that the pitch of the note will lower), increase air preassure, then slide your fingers, 1 by 1, onto the keys, trying to get a continuous note - a bend. this is also the method for ascending gliss.

hope this helps, good luck

Hmmmm....

If I remember correctly, the squigly is not gliss. Gliss would be a straight line... But, seeing as no one in our jazz band (7th grade, going into 8th) can do gliss, we just hold on to 3/4 of the value, then do a quick downhill chromatic scale.
