What of what sort of band? Marching band? Perhaps, but really only if you have absolutely no brass. Concert band, not so much. Concert bands can pretty much handle themselves, if they're good, even without a conductor. Orchestras can play regularly without percussion, particularly since most orchestral music uses percussion for crashes and the occassional snare or timpani roll. And no, you don't own the world, it's just that each section of any ensemble has self-envisioned grandeur that is contested and threatened by all the other sections.
Just ignore "Noteworthy Player" since he is scared that you are a really good drummer and that you might actually own the world.
He is terribly afraid of not being top dog.
I vote that is forced to change his name to Notworthy Player.
ps - Drummers really do rule any ensemble that they play in, how would you be without your heartbeat? Most orchestras can't stay on track unless there is a snare drum snapping off eighth notes in the background. Trust me, I know.
As all experienced musicians should know, the importance of a section is based purely on the music they play. Depending on the composer and/or the arranger, one section that is important in one piece may be the least necessary in the next. Generally, the section that is most important is influenced by the type of ensemble in question. For example, the brass section carries the tune (normally) in a marching band while the percussion play their fancy rhythms. Concert bands use a lot more woodwinds in their music, and orchestra's feature every section regularly.
I don't consider myself top dog, and I don't believe that a "top dog" exists.
If you are looking for a true Top Dog look no further because you would be hard pressed to find a better clarinet player than myself.
I will post some clips sometime soon so be on the lookout for those.
After hearing my clips you will know that you are definitely inferior. Just wanted to let you know so you could prepare for the sadness that will follow.
could you stop using such big words and fancy sentences? i am only a drummer. a simpel minded drummer who gets confused if i cannot understand what you are saying.
all that means is that you shouldn't be so selfish about your own instrument. also, you shouldn't have posted in this this forum, this place is dominated by wind musicians. you should have posted in the percussion forum if you want to talk about drums, you will stand no chance against a whole group of musicians lol
"Most orchestras can't stay on track unless there is a snare drum snapping off eighth notes in the background. "
i'd say that an ensemble dependant on percussion for their rhythm needs some work. and perhaps better discipline. if the group allows themselves to depend on one section to keep them going, it's a recipe for disaster. what happens when percussion doesnt play for 30 measures?
i'd also agree with the crowd that the clarinet forum is kind of a silly place to put "drummers rule the world" , if only for sheer irrelevance.
