we're usually just over 200 people, (211 last year i believe) but i think we're down this year due to a HUGE senior class just graduating- we've gone from 30-something to 17 clarinets.
not sure how many this season last season it was-
4 piccolos
7 flutes
6 clarinets
7 alto saxes
2 tenor saxes
2 bari saxes
5 trumpets
3 mellos
2 baritornes
2 tuba
2 trombones
6 pit
8 drumline
8 guard
----------
total- 64
Not counting percussion, I think that we have around 80 mambers. A lot of people quit because our show last year was bad, so I guess they were disenchanted with band
Having so many members is cool, but it severely limits our formation designs- most of the time we're just making arcs and curves, or one big picture, like a monkey or a duck (I have no idea why though lol).
I never realized how many other bands are small like my school's band. I'm pretty sure that we only have around 50 people and that's counting the flag team. We aren't big enough to have our own guard and rifles, but I think that we can play as loud as about 100 people. I wish that our marching band was as great as it used to be. About 15-20 years ago we were champions and our shelves are filled with the trophies of past competitions. If you don't believe in music disappearing from schools then you're crazy! The old band directors who oversaw all of these victories retired and the school cut down on funds provided to the band. Our instruments are so old that some have been duct-taped. We only have enough funds, even from our fundraisers, to fix a few instruments. No one really cares about our band anymore. Many times the crowd has been horrible to us and some even cheered and danced to the other band's songs. It's sad to say that lack of money and support has destroyed our band.

Sorry, I went on so long, but I just needed to get that off my chest.
thats the exact same with our school.it seems that everyone is focussed on sports.wats really sad is to see the athletic kids that drop out of band and chorus in middle school to play sports in high school when they arnt even good at all.more often then not they dont even make the team and they gave up music and never go back to it,leaving our band smaller than b4.i people like that and after they leave i dont talk to them much cause im never around them at all really.its really sad but ive tried to convince them not 2 quit but that doesnt work.but the joke on them is in high school they hav music theory and the hav 2 write an essay a week insted of making the smart choice to sing or play an instrument.sadley my school doesnt get money 4 band the parents hav to provide funds and if enough people quit we will nolonger hav a music program...:-(
toni thats really sad. we ductape our instruments too, infact the drumline/pit believes that is gods gift to them...but its really is sad.our band directors office is filled w/ some asbestous or somethin and the school wont help pay 4 it 2 b removed so dirt is getting on all of our pics and tropheys and they will b ruined if the problem is not fixed.out of the 15 sr's that left last year 7 newbies came.leaving our marching band even smaller this year.its not fair to us or the band director.:-(
yeah its people like that who make me want 2 get rid of sports teams...he came to band camp to sit in the car...play frisbee..and eat when we went to meals.i dispise him.
yea. and duct tape is God's gift 2 the percussion section. the marching snare is the only instrement in our section that doznt have duct tape on it. i mean look in nicks back back. he has 2 rolls of it. DUCT TAPE RULES! YAY DUCT TAPE!!!!even the harni have duct tape on them......
