Hey!
I really enjoy playing clarinet.
BUT
I have a problem!
On the lower joint, you know those padded things that cover up the holes (I have no idea what they are really called, if you do, tell me)? The lowest one on my clarinet, something happened to it and when I press down on the lowest outer key, it dosen't close all the way. When I go to play the B above middle C, it is majorly hard to play. I have to blow really hard at first, and all I get is an airy sound, and then a really load B. Dose anyone know how to fix this problem?
Thanks

is it the third line B or the B above the staff? If it is the third line B then you have either a bent key or a leak. Just take it to someone around that fixes clarinets.

Its the third line B.
I was wondering, could a music professional just fix my clarinet then and there, or would they have to take it apart if it was a bent key?

I had the same problem when I started out - make sure the B key and the C# key on the left side of the clarinet aren't overlapping eachother and that there is a small gap in between the two keys. Sometimes new Clarinets have a problem - the keys get bent really easily
Refer to a photo of the Clarinet if need be. Hope it helps

I know your pain -- my clarinet has recently just been having an abundance of problems (in the market for a prof. model. I'm having to reprimand Clarence my clarinet a little too much nowadays). Take a look at others' clarinets that don't have problems. To figure out if it's a leak (my grandpa showed me this one) just take the peice that you think the leak is on, cover up the end of the peice with your hand and close all the holes and blow into the peice. If you are actually able to blow and air excapes, it's a leak. If not, I have no idea. I just really liked this idea and thought I'd share. =) Good luck.
