Hi! I just bought my clarinet and I would really appreciate if you guys gave me the basic to playnh the clarinet...what should i do with the reeds, etc etc etc, stuff like that, stuff that would help a begginer getting started, ok?
You need to stick to one instrument, learn the basics really well then think about if you want to stick with it or learn another.
If you try and learn too many instruments at the same time, you won't learn any of them properly
The old saying
Jack of all trades , master of none comes to mind
Instead of buying lots of different instruments, stick with what you have
and use the money to get lessons or extra lessons to help you improve.
This is the lower register part of the fingering chart, it can be printed out.
But eventually, you will need a teacher. A DVD or beginner's book can only take you so far. There are many things to learn such as articulation, tounge placement, proper air support, etc.
The sooner you find a teacher, the less time you will spend fixing bad habits (like biting).
You really need a teacher; its really hard to explain the embouchre used on a clarinet without actually being able to see it. If you can't get any sound, or if your clarinet sounds something like a dying cat, then you probably have too much of the mouthpeice in your mouth. Or you might not have enough. You'll know when it sounds right. If you aren't already, you should start by trying to play something easy like a C or maybe a D(the ones just below the staff).
Yes, teachers are my only recommendation. And by the way, if you wish getting more serious on the clarinet, i suggest you buy something more than a 200 dollar clarinet. Do you have a brand and serial number?
