I've been playing clarinet for four years now and I'm about to do my grade six exam but I've having a few problems with squeaking on middle C,D,E,F etc. Does anyone know if this can be fixed by dropping your embouchure a bit, or is it the clarinet? Thanks.

Is your reed in good condition? That can sometimes affect your playing, although I don't know if it would make you squeak. Try putting a little less of the mouthpeice in your mouth while you're playing and see if that helps.

Thanks, now I remember my teacher saying that, and I'll check my reeds too.

I agree on the reeds. Also what mouthpiece and what strength reeds are you using ?
Have you tried softer or harder reeds ?

I'm using a vandoren M13 lyre with a BG tradition ligature. I mostly play 3.5 reeds but sometimes I play softer ones. Not often though.

Maybe you're just nervous, our second chair clarinet in our band always squeeks at festival due to nerves.
