I'm doing an audition in either February or March and I've been looking at doing the third movement of the K. 622. This particular one is from Carl Fischer. I have heard mixed responses on this version, but I don't understand why some people don't like it. Perhaps someone can give me their ideas on this? If you've played any version of the Mozart Clarinet Concerto, which one did you play?
I have used both the Carl Fischer and the International versions. I tend to like the International version more because it seems to have less added articulations and ornamentations that may not be original. I think the more stripped down basic version allows for much more performer's instrumentation.
The Fischer is fine for an audition to produce basic ideas, but I would stay away if you were to do a recital or something of that nature. Best of luck. Out of curiosity, where is the audition?
I'm currently playing the second mvt, Adagio, of the Mozart clarinet concerto.
I'm playing it from a book called "Solos for the Clarinet Player" By Arthur H. Christmann.
I quite enjoy playing it, I love how expressive you can be. Very fun with some little 16th note runs and 16th note 6-tupplets and such. And plus it even has some 32th notes =]. I find it really nice to play, and quite love the piece.
jvanullen: I'm auditioning to get into the music program at University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. I never heard of the International version of it, I'll have to give it a look.
MusicalPanda: I really like the second movement too! It's nice and slow and I absolutely love the 16th and 32nd notes in it. It sounds so pretty
Thank you for your input, it's really helpful sometimes to hear what other musicians have to say!
I'm working on the 2nd and 3rd movement of that for a recital, but its not either of those versions, I like it, but havent really seen any other versions to compare it to
