Hi,
I am new to the site and forum! I have a question; I am going to buy a clarinet from overseas and one of the items in the description is semi-auto. Can anyone tell me what this means and if I sell the clarinet if it is an option that most people would want.
Thanks
AmberRose

From where overseas is it coming from, and what is the make and model ? You have to be very careful buying from some places.

Semi automtoic has to do with the 'register' key. There are three possibilities on register keys.
1- simple action
2- semi automatic
3- fully automatic

Simple action means there are two (or more) register keys that must be operated independently. For the lower register change you engage one key, to do the next register you release the first key and then engage the second key.

Semi Automatic means when you engage the higher register key it will automatically close the previous register key.

Anything other than simple register key mechanism on a standard clarinet is extremely unusual. Automatic is standard in various forms on bass clarinets & all saxophones. (You do see the 3 options on oboes though).

I'd be very interested to see pictures & further details of this instrument. Is it a new one?

If you want to give me your email address I will send a picture of the semi-auto mechanism. I will be importing them as new soon. Once I receive them I would be glad to email actual pictures.

Thanks,
AmberRose
