Hi, i`m new to the site and was wondering if anyone could help me. I would really like to play the cor anglais, but i`ve never played a woodwind instrument before, excluding the recorder. Is it a good idea to take up the english horn without knowing how to play the oboe? Any help would be greatly apreciated, thanks.

Since you`ve never played a double reed instrument it may be FAAAAAR cheaper for you to rent an Oboe somewhere and see how you take to it. If you like then you can fork out $3,000-$6,000kUS for an English Horn.

Plus, the english horn is not played that often, so owning an oboe with an english horn is a must.
