I am currently in the process of trying to find an oboe...a cheap oboe. I have looked everywhere I can think of: I searched online music stores, called local music shops, and even scanned ebay, but there are no oboes out there for only $100 or less. I know that I'm putting a rather low limit on it, but really, I can't afford anything too expensive. My dad is actually going to pay for it, so I have to have a limit. I have found some that were under $100, but everybody jumped the gun to bid on them and the prices climbed to $200. It is so frustrating. I would like to learn before I graduate from school, but that doesn't look probable. Anyway, is there anyplace that sells good, cheap oboes for a low price?...besides ebay? (man, am I ever frustrated with ebay.)
Yeah, I realize that oboes can be pretty pricey, which makes it really hard to find a cheap one. The only thing is that I'm looking for a guitar too, and we've already spent money on a new flute for me and a saxophone for my brother (which I'm learning also). So, we're pretty tight on money. It's just that ebay has me so frustrated and I can't find any cheap music stores out there (I think they're nonexistent). So, I guess I'll just have to scrape up some more money elsewhere and go on ebay (even though every oboe I find on there is crazy to try to bid on). But, oh well.
I hate to say it but good oboes generally run $2,000. The cheapest oboes will tend to run $700 and usually nothing less (unless your bidding). When it comes to buying a cheap oboe you are really pushing it on the price! Anyway, you could always buy a broken one (and get it repaired). Or try to find the seperate parts for an oboe (which would probably still ad up to a lot of money). Good luck!!!
Realistically, a good used oboe sells for 2000 - 5000. If you buy a cheap one you get what you pay for. Junk! Nobody can play on something like that. Offer to get a summer job to pay for part of it. See if there are organizations in your area offering scholarships to help as well. Here is the website of a knowledgable seller of used oboes. http://oboes.us/
umm, if you plan to play you, expect to fork over some money. a decent oboe will run you about $1500-2000 and professional oboes can run as much as $5000-8000
