Weird forum name maybe...

Anyway, anyone who plays, likes or worships the oboe say anything here. I don't care how random or dumb or spiteful it is spit it out here and now.

WE WILL TAKE OVER THE WORLD!

BAD PLAYERS SHALL SQUEAK MURDEROUSLY
GOOD PLAYERS WILL LULL OTHERS TO SLEEP AND HIT THEM WITH FLAMING CLARINETS. (But I still like the clarinet)

A friend of mine found it on e-bay. She copied the picture to her computer and printed on her own sticker paper...she gave me a copy (she also plays the oboe)

Theres a bunch of oboe stuff on ebay. Oboe bags, oboe decals, etc. Anyway! I LOVE THE OBOE AND WILL CONTINUE TO PLAY IT EVEN AFTER I DIE A HORRIBLE DEATH AT THE HANDS OF THREE HYPERACTIVE BRASS PLAYERS, JEALOUS OF THE BEAUTIFUL PLAYING ABILITY OF THE OBOW.

Just to let you know I'm not completely obsessed with the oboe.... wait...I think it's my oboe's bed time. I'll be right back after I've tucked it in and read it a story.

Hello to anyone who read this.
I recently aquired an old oboe and I am trying to find the maker and the age of the instrument .
My oboe is an Ambassador Olds and Son .
I can't find any serial numbers , Where are they usualy situated on the instrument .
I hear that Evette and Scheaffer were producing for Olds and Son . Anybody who could help me findind the provenance. It's wood .

By the way i just starting to make some awsome noise with this baby . I play flute for a long period of time so I know about pitch and this instrument sound awsome . At the beginning I tought that the oboe was not in good condition and I got ripped off , but I read a bit and figured out about the double reed ( yea i know!!!!!! ). Any body can help me with the right choice of reeds for beginners And do you guys adjust your reeds with the knife scraping to adjust the reed.
Thanks

On my Linton, the serial number was lightly imprinted near the bottom of the second joint.

Oboe People Rebel? We've already rebelled by playing the oboe, because we know that everyone else wants to kill us whether the instrument is played well or not.

I might consider the oboe one day.

So far I am quite content on the bassoon.
I seem to recall an interview with one of the main men involved at fox that was asked about
the difference he encountered between oboists and bassoonists.

AFAIR he replied that when he visits some town to show off fox's latest products over some beers or such he eg calls up several oboists... and maybe 1 or 2 will show up.

Then he calls up several bassoonists... and at least 3 dozen will show up.

I'd wager some would also bring some nibblies.

Myself I wouldn't want to comment on this while thing until I've tried an oboe myself,
Alas the bassoon takes all my spare time atm... but... maybe one day...

Cheers
James

I'm not obsessed with the oboe. I only touch it every five minutes. I only play it six hours a day. I only am in 3 orchestras playing it. I'm not obsessed with the oboe.

In addition to Oboe's comment: When we play bad, everyone wants to kill us for our horrible tone. When we play good, everyone wants to kill us for sounding better than they ever can. ;)
I love my oboe. BUT I'M NOT OBSESSESED WITH IT. lol
