Hi

I was at band practice the other day and this year we have 13 flutes 14 clarinets 6 trumpets 1 bassoon 5 trombones 1 bass trombone 4 euphoniums 1 tuba 5 alto saxes 2 tenor saxes 1 baritone sax 2 french horns 1 bass clarinet 1 alto clarinet 1 picolo and i am the only oboe player. It's really annoying when i have the melody and all the other instruments drown me out, does this happen to anyone else?

it's normal for this to happen, talk to your conductor and ask him to make the the band play less loud (piano)
and then you will be heard.

PLAY OUT! An oboe, when played properly, should be able to sound over what you have described, except of course if they're mean people who think they're uber important and blast everything no matter the dynamic.
