ive heard that hand made reeds are much better than machine made.. my oboe teacher told me that.. idk whats so great about them tho. she always adjusts mine so thats either easier or more open for me to play on; also when really sharp or flat. im supposed to start learning really soon the :] (btw if anyone cares its the 25th anneversary of the smiley:])

As you were saying about reeds I don't know much about reeds but I think they are better handmade - especially if you can make them for yourself because then you can make it just right. At the moment I use reeds which are kind of a bit of both - they are partly manufactured by machine but they are hand finished which I suppose is better than just machine made.

i use reeds from britannia music shop online and give me a really good response. however i'm not the most careful person so i often leave reeds loose in the case =[ resulting in the breaking of many =[ once going through three in a week . but i bought a case last month and now im saving myself time and money on ordering new reeds.

Hey, My Oboe teacher makes me reeds. Store bought reeds suck, and I think Every oboist should learn how to make reeds. Oboe is half, reeds are also half of the deal when picking the oboe. I am going to start reed making soon after 3 months of playing.

My worst Oboe Crime:

I was sitting and waiting and my oboe slipped out of my hands, flipped over my case and the reed smashed into my stand. It was quite the ordeal. After that, my 'e' Key would go up so I had to take it in D=. It was really frightening and I will be way more careful next time.
