I normally play saxophone, and it has a neck strap, but it obviously needs one.
I recently happened upon oboe neck straps. :/ I am unsure about them. Is it really worth it?
Well, I bought one. I had dropped my oboe, well almost dropped, and chipped my reed. My instructor said that maybe I should get one. I still think it's just stupid to wear one for something this small ((i'm used to playing bari sax and having to have a harness)).
What's your opinion?

I HATE reeds!!!!
My instructor normally sells me Jones mediums. Well, I try to find them, IMPOSSIBLE!! So I buy one that is made by jones and says m 4 times on the package. Later inspect it closely becuase I can barely play...it's not a medium...it's a medium HARD.

a neck strap is supposed to distribute the weight of the instrument (even though it isn't very heavy) and can help when you are playing for long periods of time. My oboe teacher told me about them but i don't have one. it might not be a bad idea to have one though.

I would suggest Marlin Lesher reeds. You can buy them at wwww.wwbw.com. They are fairly inexpensive and produce a great tone. my oboe teacher said they were a good brand to use. you can also choose the hardness of the reed.

Your Oboe teacher should make their own reeds. My oboe teacher wants me to start learning, and I only started.
I used to play the alto and I know how heavy they are. Some times when I play my Oboe my thumb really hurts because of all the pressure put on it from the thumb rest. You may want to try it out. I mean I have heard of clarinet straps. So why not?

You should get a FHRED its an adjustable staff that hooks onto ur oboes thumb rest and its removable. the maker of it is quodlibet inc.
