Hey, I've just started playing oboe again after a couple of years....
and after playing my lips feel quiet bumpy (bubbly) and there are rough patches on the insides from my teeth

I don't believe that i am biting the reed...

Just wonderin(g cause its been a long time since i first started playing) is this normal for a little while until the mouth and the muscles toughen up??

yes, even after a couple weeks of not playing, or even days.

just play through the pain, do long tones, and everything from your embouchure to your tone will improve with time.

just take it slow though, and build up. same way you'd build up your arms or any other muscles.

I was in an accident, and -all- of my top front teeth were basically shattered. I had to get them pulled and then wait 6 months before I could get porcelain veneers >.< It was absolute torture, not being able to play my oboe for that long. I even gave it back to my band director b/c I would cry just looking at it sitting there, lol. After my teeth were fixed, though, it was like starting aaalllll over again. My embochure was completely gone, and every day when practice was done my lips were so blistered that it hurt to talk
