Halo..im a new member of this site..ive just started playin oboe 3 month ago..ive played the flute before..bout 4 years..then i swicth into oboe..the good thing is, since ive got basic, im moving quite fast in become an oboe player..ive got the tone but it is not consistant since im not good yet to control the reed...a bit intonation prob..so, i hope yall who got experiences may share them with me n give me few tips..
try doing some scales really slowly, concentrating on getting a good tone instead of speed or anything. A good sound is more important than speed or dynamics.
I agree, but tone also comes with experience. Your tone won't be amazing when you start off, but it should improve as you become a better player in other aspects.
and with donig the scales.. start off with just quarter notes, then to eighth notes, to triplets, to sixteenth notes to quintuplets and then in cut time. this would help when you tounge again the tip of the reed.. for the longest time i wasn't doing that. then my private teacher told me that exercise; it took me awhile but i got it after about a week and a half/two weeks

your best bet is to work on getting a good intonation from your oboe .. then to start working on the technical stuff
even half or whole notes could be good, depending on your skill and how bad your intonation is. When you're not concentrating on getting from one note to the next, its a lot easier to work on your tone.
I've been playing oboe for about 4 months now, so I don't think I'm any more "experienced" as you are, but really generally i would say just practice with the reed a lot first (breathing excercizes{sp}, tounguing, stuff like that) then move on and do them with the oboe. It helps to learn to tighten your mouth and control the reed.
