In about two weeks, I have to get braces (not exactly something i would have put on my christmas wish-list). Does anybody know if or how this will affect my playing?

i had braces on while i was playing my oboe.. and this was a time when i went from 2nd year level to highschool level. nothing really effected my playing though. sometimes id put the wax on while playing so the metal wouldnt cut my upper and lower lip. at sometimes it was painful becuase my mouth would be sore but at the most it didn't really bother me.

I've had braces for .... about 2 months now and I play oboe. Umm ... during the first week, I highly suggest you use wax on the lil hooks that connect the bands. I had a problem with that touching mouth when I first tried playing with braces, but once you get use to it, there will be no wax needed and you'll be back to your usual self. trust me, i know. lol.

Ive been playing for about 4 months with braces now and it doesnt really affect me that much. my mouth gets tired more quickly but its actually improved my embrocure(ok, i cant spell...) and I couldnt play for about a week but dont worry about it!

Getting braces didn't effect my playing at all but i wasn't playing until 2 days after getting them. I have never used wax but i know that some people do.

i had braces for about 2 years before playing oboe, so my problem is going to be playing it when i get them off. (hopefully this summer  )
